Surrey Board of Trade

Home
The Surrey Board of Trade was asked (and lobbied) to stage all candidates forums for this provincial election.  We declined to do so because there have been a number of community groups who could manage that on a riding by riding basis rather than an unwieldy and frankly not workable, cross multi-riding basis.

Instead, we have prepared a series of questions on what the Board of Trade has determined to be the major issues facing the business community.  We have asked questions on:

  • Education funding inequities
  • Low funding levels for Kwantlen Polytechnic, compared to its sister organizations
  • TransLink and transportation around funding solutions for the utility, solutions to movement of goods and services in the South Fraser, and other infrastructure priorities
  • ALR and Employment (Industrial) lands, is it all properly identified
  • Crime and Justice; Policing resources, administration, increased funding for crown prosecutors, the penal system (remand and provincial jails) the courts and judges, and views on profilic offenders
  • Top priorities for strengthening the Surrey business community
  • Health and Safety in the workplace

There were many questions which could have been put forward, however, we feel this is a good cross section of issues.  We will post the responses on our website www.businessinsurrey.com as soon as they are received, as well as highlighting any candidates who fail to respond. You can find a list of our questions by following this link.
