2009 Export Award goes to Singer Valve Inc
Surrey’s business community gathered on Surrey Board of Trade’s 3rd Annual International Trade and Surrey Export Award Dinner to celebrate the success of local export companies. The event brought together the many influential players doing business internationally, and recognized Singer Valve Inc as the winner of the 2009 Export Award. Singer’s Brian Blann accepted the award on the company’s behalf.
Speakers included Stephen Branch, Vice President of Marketing for Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers; Mr. Phillip Chicola, Consul General of the USA; and John Treleaven, Vice Chair of the Board of Directors for the Saanich Peninsula Chamber of Commerce and President of the Treleavan Consulting Group. The speakers brought great enthusiasm to the group, stating that the evening’s nominees for success in international trade were, “just the tip of the iceberg” for Surrey and that this city could expect great things in the near future. Much of the conversation throughout the evening was centered around the message that Surrey’s exporters are ready and open for business!
Another message that was key to the event, and to all businesses, is that despite the recession, there are opportunities in the global economy to sell your product and conduct business. Don’t let the ‘R’ word distract you from your goal.
The five successful nominees were Analytic Systems, Crawford Creek Lumber Ltd., Patton and Cooke Company, Singer Valve Inc. and Wizard IT Services.
Ultimately, it was Singer Valve Inc. that took home the Surrey Export Award! Singer Valve Inc. designs, manufactures and exports quality automatic control valves. The company plays a significant role in global water conservation.
The Surrey Board of Trade would like to sincerely thank everyone that made this event possible:

Colin Hansen, BC Minister for Economic Development told an audience of over 300 people, that the time was right for companies to get into the game internationally.
He said BC wasn’t just the gateway to Canada, but to North America, as he described how the growth of trade offers enormous opportunities to businesses, particularly those in Surrey, getting into the international trade theatre.
His positive message was echoed by two other speakers, David Solloway, General Manager, North American Operations for Oasis Hong Kong Airlines and John Treleavan, Chairman of the Board of Advisors for the Canada Export Centre and President of The Treleavan Consulting Group. They were also strongly positive about the future, particularly for those businesses that are doing business around the Pacific Rim.
Treleavan congratulated the Surrey Board of Trade for being the only one in Canada to showcase and recognize companies engaged in trade, as well as facilitating connections between its members and countries around the world.
The event was supported by Presenting Sponsor RBC Royal Bank, Export Development Canada, A&A Contract Customs Brokers Ltd, Kwantlen University College and Media Sponsor, The Leader Newspaper. The evening was hosted by George Gordon, Morning Host on News 1130 – All News Radio.
